The word "warrior" means "one who is engaged
in or experienced in battle". The warrior is thefighting class, certainly. But they are skilled fighters and proficient
in many different things related to combat. They have the ability to work
with what is available to them, whether it be sword or hand-to-hand combat.
Warriors train for many hours to learn their skills in combat, and to
gain a tactical advantage over their opponents. Sword and shield are the
two best friends of a warrior, since both can determine his success or
defeat in battle. While warriors are not as specialized as the paladins
or dark knights, warriors have a wide range of combat abilities which
make them an excellent fighting class. This also includes using scrolls,
pre-made by sorcerers. So even warriors will not have to live without
magic entirely.
In Dark and Light, the warrior will have a weakness to the casters, as
they will not resist magic very well. So it is best to protect yourself
in any way available against casters.
The Warrior class as taught by Immortal Arkorak is the logical extension
of every fighter, although they can specialize as Dark
Knights, Paladins or Archers.
Citizen description: Common to all characters. It describes the
basic skills related to body activities (swimming, running, jumping),
social activities (trade, languages)
and magic (healing, public teleporter useage).
Fighter description: From level 5 on, this gives access to basic
fighting skills: many skills are passive ones, allowing you to increase
some statistics (constitution, stamina, resistances), weapon and shield
efficiency, attack speed.
Warrior description: From level 20 on, this description is divided
in 3 sections dedicated to classic weapon mastery, war cries during fights,
and a series of special thrusts that require huge amounts of mana.
Weapon
mastery: This skill axis gathers all skills allowing the warrior to
use a wide range of weapons. A Warrior who focuses on this axis will be
able to master every weapon, to use two weapons simultaneously while reducing
the penalty, and to reduce the efficiency of an opponents armour
class. Level 35 specialization allows the warrior to use multiple attacks,
to deal blows that push the opponent, and to use two two-handed weapons
simultaneously.
War cries: Cries are divided in three categories: cries that increase
statistics (such as strength), cries that increase team member statistics
(such as run speed), and skills that attack the opponent (freeze, panic,
wound).
Secret thrusts: This third axis gives access to a series of special
attacks the Warrior can use, that require a lot of mana. There are many
different attacks allowing, sorted by power, to launch weapons like boomerangs,
to increase defence against missiles (physical and magic ones) by using
a particular stance, to jump on the opponent, to throw him/her in the
air.
Equipment: A Warrior can use any type of armour, but cannot wear
any robes. He/she can also use any weapon except two-handed staves, and
every ranged weapon except shuriken, long bow and heavy crossbow. Finally,
a Warrior can use any type of shield.
Some think the Warrior is from ancient Nordic descent, others say it
is of the Japanese Samurai. Either way, warriors have dotted the worlds
history with heroic adventures and valiant deeds. Regardless of where
they were born, the warriors of old believed it was better to die in battle
than to die of old age.
A warrior is filled with great pride. They believe in what they fight
for, and they believe in protecting their homeland. This has been documented
down through history, from the Huns to modern day soldiers in various
countries. Everywhere we look, our warriors are fighting for freedoms...
for beliefs... for the future of their countrymen. And they do it with
a pride unmatched by any other. And a fierceness of their beliefs that
they are fighting for.
One of the most famous of warriors of both movies and myth is Conan the
Barbarian. While not a real person of history... many things have been
based upon this tale of heroics, tragedy and love. And many theories of
warriors of old have been based upon this tale. It does present the Barbarian
with a strong basis of stamina, strength and perseverance. But it is not
the whole story.
More recently, Aragorn has come into infamy. With his honor and forbidden
love, as well as passion and ability, Aragorn has changed the way a warrior
is viewed. No more are they the large, bulky, muscular figures such as
Conan... now, they are stealthy and cunning, capable of speed, agility
and strength. The warrior should have all of this, as well is intelligence
to make decisions quickly in the heat of battle.
In mythology, Hercules is one of the most famous of warriors. Heracles
means "Heras Glory". He was aptly named, as he
was born to be the champion of the Gods. Hercules, son of Zeus and Hera,
suffered the 12 Labors of Heracles to atone for his mortal sins upon his
wife. Upon completion of his tasks, he was given immortality. Something
no other warrior ever received!
Warriors have always been the staple of successful armies through history.
If you did not have the strong men to lead you in to battle and be at
the forefront of the war, where would you be? Dead, most likely. The warriors
make up the force of an army. Without them to present the strength of
an advancement, most likely one would be crushed before you even began.
In the First World War, in 1915 at the Battle of the Suez Canal, troops
for the Turkish army had to cross 300km over the desert floor to reach
their target, as no other route was available to them. They had two months
to do this.
The moral of the story? Without the stamina and determination of well-trained
warriors, this would not have been possible.
Thanks to traveler tales from the most distant lands, and
from the most ancient legends; here is what we know about the great deeds
of Arkorak the Warrior.
Arkorak was sent onto Ganareth by Gothar the Great to restore order and
balance by fighting the most ferocious Dragons. In order to assist him
in his task, Gothar gave him an outfit with extraordinary powers, which
he had created the same way he created the Moon, with the Mana of the
early times. Arkorak will be remembered as the one who, among the fourteen
messengers of Gothar, fought the Dragons with the most relentless and
ferocious attitude.
Out of his countless fights, the one that is remembered the most, is
against a huge dragon in the citadel of Esquerine. The people who survived
the attack of this gigantic dragon, and Gothar knows they were very few,
witnessed the most fabulous combat they ever saw. Here is, in substance,
what was told:
When Arkorak entered the citadel of Esquerine, more than a hundred souls
had passed away. There was only a handful of the wounded left, that had
escaped the frightful beasts claws and jaws. In order to protect
them, Arkorak faced the dragon and hit him many times with his sword and
axe. His weapons were moving so fast and were dealing such powerful blows
that the dragon was forced to step back and soon had his back against
the wall of the fortress. His powerful claws hit Arkorak several times,
and he too was forced to step back as well.
It is said that this fight lasted for three days and three nights before
it came to an end. Both fighters were facing each other when the sun rose
for the fourth time, exhausted, wounded, and out of breath. When the first
rays of light hit the place, Arkorak gathered his strength and, in a last
effort, he rushed towards the monster whilst shouting. People say his
shouting froze the beast completely, he then drove his sword into the
beasts heart. Witnesses say Arkorak was then covered with the dragons
blood, mixed with his own. Legend has it that from this day on, his armour,
covered with dragon blood, became extraordinarily strong.
According to legend, the dragons blood sometimes mixes with the
blood of the warrior who wears this armour, and for a short moment, grants
him with tremendous strength. Some say that disciples of Arkorak tried
to wear the armour and went mad because of it, and that only a very powerful
warrior would, one day, be able to use it. Some also say that in order
to protect other warriors from losing their souls as well, the armour
parts were hidden in different places in Ganareth, guarded by very powerful
beings.
Sylvadràn, the Wood Elf Warrior
Sylvadràn was fascinated by songs about the deeds of the first
Elven fighters. An apparent characteristic was his eagerness and the fact
that he spent all the time he had to train with any weapon at his disposal.
He had made himself a bow, and was rather skilled with it. He used Elven
swords with great ease and practiced a lot in order to become strong and
resilient. He was soon sent to defend the walls of the forest of Clendan.
As he was on guard duty, he saw what he believed was an Original Elf for
the first time. Sylvadràn was impressed by the big man that radiated
with power. Before trying to shoot him down, he asked him who he was.
This is how he met Arkorak, son of Gothar, who would become his master.
Thanks to Arkorak, he learned to use almost everything the people of
Ganareth use as weapons. He also learned to wear very strong armour, always
trying to use the lighter ones, which suited his body better. He did the
same for weapons. He often chose the ones that were of Elven origin, because
they were in harmony with the magic inside him. Thanks to his god, he
eventually matched the power of Dwarven weapons.
During the years that followed, Sylvadràn fought along with Arkorak,
who always marveled at how valiant he was. Sylvadràn managed to
defeat many foes. One day, he even attacked one who was ten times his
size. He was soon in a very dangerous situation, and Arkorak had to rush
in and take him away from the monsters range. Sylvadràn was
very upset and couldnt admit he had lost control of the fight. Arkorak
didnt get angry, on the contrary: he gave him the giants armband.
By offering him this, Arkorak acknowledged that Sylvadràns
faith and courage, was far greater than his own physical size. From that
day onwards, Sylvadràns physical size was the same as the
foes he battled against, and he never lost again.
When Sylvadràn, in turn, started to teach his own disciples, he
realized the armband didnt have the same effect on them. One day,
during a training session, he almost lost one of them. He had become the
size of his foe, but during the fight, he returned to his real size and
almost perished against the Gorgoroth. The gods temper is sometimes
versatile, as is the faith of those that worship them, and the help they
care to grant.
HOGAARD, THE HALF-TROLL WARRIOR by Elhavius
Never did anybody see anyone with a temper worse than Hogaards,
a Half-Troll who lived in the swamps of Guérhan. He got terribly
angry for reasons that, quite often, remained obscure. He was quite strong
and his powerful blows could seriously hurt people who had the unfortunate
notion to get in his way. Sometimes, he retired to the mountains to calm
down, and once alone, he usually let himself go, venting off his rage.
This could sometimes go on for several hours.
Arkorak was on his way to the swamps of Guérhan through the pass
of Bràn when he heard the echoes of something shouting powerfully.
Quite intrigued by how loud these were, he decided to see where the shouting
came from. This is how Arkorak and Hogaard met. Hogaard calmed down a
little once he noticed he was no longer alone. Arkorak complimented him
on his powerful voice. Hogaard was not in the mood for conversation, and
his anger increased once again. He started cursing Arkorak, like he would
have done with anybody else. But Arkorak showed extreme patience and gave
him time to let off some steam. Then Arkorak took a deep breath and shouted
so loudly that Hogaard immediately froze!. He couldnt even move
a finger. Arkorak used this opportunity to tell Hogaard who he was, and
offered him assistance to control his anger and to turn it into a tremendously
powerful weapon. After a few hours, Hogaard could move again, and was
ready to hear what Arkorak had to say.
Hogaard received basic training in weapon usage, but Arkorak put the stress
on his study of the shouting technique. Hogaard then learned how to make
wild animals flee or freeze. The mountain was a perfect place to practice,
since the shouts were amplified by the echo. Once Hogaard understood the
technique, Arkorak taught him about shouting specific words that could
initiate terrible attacks.
After several cycles, Hogaards lessons were over, and he departed
toward distant lands. While traveling, he fought several troops of Trolls
and Orcs. He wanted to be so strong that nothing would withstand his attacks.
He started to look for a glassblower by the name of Tranluind, who crafted
glass items that were stronger than metal. Tranluind didnt tell
him about his craft, but challenged him to break one of his vials. Hogaard
couldnt refuse a challenge, and shouted the most powerful sound
he ever made. In the workshop, Tranluinds works started to shatter,
and glass shards flew everywhere. Hogaard was quite proud at the result,
and he was about to laugh at Tranluind when he saw a small vial in Tranluinds
hand, that had survived the vocal-attack. Hogaard took another deep breath
and raised his voice once again, more powerful than the first time. He
shouted one of the words Arkorak had taught him. Several minutes later,
the vial started to shake, and tiny cracks began to appear. The vial was
about to break as well, but Tranluind gestured him to stop, admitting
he had lost against Hogaard. In this vial was a powerful spell that would
have annihilated everything if Hogaard had kept on shouting.
Soon after, Hogaard and Tranluind became associates. Hogaard put Tranluinds
vials to the test, and they became even harder to break. Tranluind even
managed to create a breastplate that would amplify Hogaards shouts.
Their vials gained an awesome reputation, and both became rich men.
